Hyundai Tucson named best family car by BBC Top Gear

The Hyundai Tucson has been named the best of 50 family cars tested by TV show, Top Gear.

In front of an audience of millions on BBC1, presenters Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris crowned the Tucson as their top choice from a line-up of many of the best new family cars on sale in Britain.

Employing their usual brand of irreverent analysis, the team whittled down the contenders via a series of challenges to come up with a final shortlist of three from which their champion would be crowned. And ultimately it was the Tucson’s all-round appeal which prevailed.

Top Gear presenter, Chris Harris said: “It’s a very good car, and it’s further evidence that Hyundai is smashing it at the moment, making proper hot hatches, interesting electric cars, and worthy family cars. They’re on a roll.”

Top Gear’s recognition of the Tucson follows a string of high-profile awards for Hyundai’s current passenger car range, including World Car of the Year 2022, World Electric Vehicle of the Year 2022 and World Car Design of the Year 2022 for the electric IONIQ 5. Earlier in 2022, the Tucson itself was named Best Family Car by Carbuyer and Best Mid-Sized SUV by Auto Express for the second year in a row.

Ashley Andrew, managing director, Hyundai Motor UK, said: “Top Gear has become much loved weekly viewing over the past 20 years with its unique take on the motoring world, but as well as providing great entertainment, the show’s opinion really matters for millions of viewers. So we are particularly pleased it has recognised what a great choice the Tucson is for families, with its revolutionary design, range of technology and electrified options. Our exceptional product range has picked up a number of important awards over the past 12 months, and this caps off a great year. And the really exciting thing is that there is much more to look forward to from Hyundai in 2023.”
