James Hawley appointed Hendy Group’s Car and Van Store area manager

James Hawley has been appointed Hendy Group’s Car and Van Store area manager.

James has vast experience in the used car industry and will be based at the Portsmouth operation, which offers up to 500 cars and vans on one site in the city.

He has been running one of the country’s largest car supermarkets, in Wiltshire, for the last 13 years and before that worked as a group sales manager in the motoring industry overseeing car supermarkets across the country.

 

Awards win

His appointment coincides with Hendy being named Used Car Dealership of the Year for the second year running in the prestigious Car Dealer Used Car Awards. James said he was delighted to be joining such a successful company at such an exciting time in its 160 year history.

“It is great to be working somewhere which offers such a wide range of brands but has the reputation and credibility that comes with the franchise business of Hendy,” said James. “We have a great variety of vehicles and fantastic facilities for customers who are at the heart of everything we do.”

James said the mix of vehicles means the Car and Van Store appeals to a wide range of buyers with the most popular models at the moment ranging from the Ford Focus through to any VW product, although he says demand for electric cars is gathering pace this year.

 

Tremendous experience

Hendy chief operating officer Simon Bottomley said he was pleased to have someone with the experience of James on board.

“James has tremendous experience in the industry and of running a large car supermarket,” said Simon. “He’s already making a positive impact on the business.”

Married and living in Portsmouth, James initially planned a career as a professional golfer and still enjoys the game with a handicap of two. He also enjoys walking and eating and says he is loving working so close to home for such a well-respected brand.
